Have you ever wished that you could just install new habits into your brain easily & effortlessly? If so, you’re not alone. Most people would love to do just that. Which is why today I am going to share with you an incredible process called the 1% principle.
It is an approach to life that focuses on the long-term results of consistently building up your habits one step at a time, one day at a time.
It is very powerful.
But first let’s take a step back for a second, shall we?
You’ve got an incredible opportunity in front of you.
A new year—a new decade—has just begun.
There’s no better time to change your life than right now.
I know that a lot of people are cynical about New Year’s resolutions and I get it.
Most average people that make average resolutions fail. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it.
But who want’s to be average?
Not me.
The fact that you’re reading this proves that you don’t want to be average either.
So I’ve got some good news for you…
There are BIG things in store for the people who decide to get up and go after it this decade.
At no other point in history were the doors of success flung so wide open as they are right now.
All you need to do is decide which path you want and then start walking.
While I can’t help you choose the path, I can help open your eyes to a principle that will help you achieve whatever goal it is that you want to achieve.
It’s called the 1% principle.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what it is:
“If you improve at something by 1% every single day, then by the end of 1 year you will be about 37x better at that thing than you were before.”
Now 1% doesn’t sound like a lot.
And it isn’t.
But 37x is A LOT of change.
Let’s say you have $1,000 in the bank.
1% of $1,000 is only $10. No big deal, right?
But 37x of $1,000 is $37,000. Much bigger deal, right?
Now take that concept and apply it to habits, skills, experiences, abilities, etc.
It’s easy to do something today 1% better than yesterday.
- Walk 50 more steps today
- Wake up 5 minutes earlier
- Eat 20 less calories
- Read 1 page of a book
- Do 1 push up
Simply doing something 1% more or 1% better today than you did yesterday is so easy it’s laughable.
It’s so tiny it barely scratches the surface.
Which is why most people won’t do it.
They’ll say, “Waking up 5 minutes earlier tomorrow doesn’t change anything, so why even bother?”
And they’ll be half-right.
A 1% difference in any skill, habit, or action isn’t going to move the needle at all.
In-fact, it’s probably going to be unnoticeable.
But over time it becomes very noticeable.
That’s the beauty of the 1% principle.
It is small enough to barely register in your day-to-day life, but over time, it grows large enough to move mountains.
Let’s take waking up 1% earlier as an example.
You normally wake up at 8 AM, but you really want to start waking up at 6 AM.
After years of trying to wake up earlier unsuccessfully you try the 1% better approach.
You decide that every day you’re going to wake up 5 minutes earlier than the day before until you hit your goal.
So it looks like this:
- Day 1: Wake up 7:55 AM
- Day 5: Wake up 7:35 AM
- Day 10: Wake up 7:10 AM
- Day 15: Wake up 6:45 AM
- Day 20: Wake up 6:20 AM
- Day 25: Wake up 6:00 AM
What most people struggle their entire lives to do—wake up earlier—you are able to easily accomplish in a mere 25 days!
By simply waking up 5 minutes earlier every single day for 25 days straight you are able to slowly and methodically reach your goal.
Best of all?
It’s such an easy, natural, and gradual change that your body adapts to it immediately.
All while you sit back and gain more & more effortless rewards for your actions.
Honestly it’s a win-win situation.
Your body & mind prefer slow, gradual change.
And you gain the most through consistent compounding interest.
So what’s an area of your life where you can factor in a 1% change starting tomorrow?
- Walking 1% more steps?
- Waking up 1% earlier?
- Eating 1% healthier?
- Exercising 1% more?
- Writing 1% more?
Here’s a mission for you, should you choose to accept it…
Identify a skill, habit, or task that you can improve by 1% starting tomorrow.
Then, make a commitment to follow the 1% principle and get better at that thing, everyday, for 30 days straight.
Have a clear idea in your head of what 30-days from now will look like and what you need to do everyday to reach that goal.
Then start doing it!
- Do this for 1 month and be amazed
- Apply this for 6 months and become successful
- Follow this principle for 1 year and change your life
- Embrace it for 1 decade and change the world
I look forward to hearing about your progress.
1 day at a time. 1 step at a time. 1% at a time.
That’s the way of always moving forward.
Always moving forward. I appreciate your messages brother, you are a talented author though I’ve heard those words before. Carry the torch. I am praying for us all.
With love
